My Photos Published in National Geographic Traveler

January 13, 2014
These two pictures taken at the 2011 Satchmo Summerfest second line have been published on the December 2013/January 2014 of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER print issue (above), and iPad article, full spread (shot below). Not only the National Geographic publication included on their article “Best of the world 2014” the City of New Orleans, but they placed it first on its list! Pictured above from left to right are Jennifer Jones,  Selma Heraldo, Louis Armstrong’s beloved neighbor and friend, and Yoshio Toyama followed by the Treme Brass Band in front of the St. Augustine Church in Treme. I was indeed very happy to hear from Yoshio that he particularly loved the image with Selma very much, since he knew her very well and wasn’t expecting her to briefly join the second line with him that day. Selma Heraldo, the main living link to Louis Armstrong, sadly passed a few months later that year.

For some strange reasons I keep on getting attracted by the Maison LeMonnier. It’s really my European (Italian!) descent that I think drags me here. When shooting in the French Quarter I somehow end up shoot this corner house!  Something about the paint job, its balconies and shutters that really, and I mean, REALLY, remind me my early life growing up in Italy…I truly love this building which they still call the skyscraper since it was the very first three stories high building in the French Quarter.

The one and only… Jazz Legend Mr. Pete Fountain!
While walking in the French Quarter very bright and early,  heard some music and I practically bumped into Pete Fountain with his marching band and float! He was ready to be getting interviewed by a local News Station WWLT and was nice enough to strike a pose for me.

Fine Art Photography at the New Orleans Hyatt Regency

posted in: Photography, Prints for Sale | 0

Five large prints of mine were commissioned by the New Orleans Hyatt Regency Hotel for display in the exibit hall by the lower ballroom, towards the back of the hotel. If you happen to visit New Orleans and/or  stay at the newly remodeled (recently re-opened after almost 6 years after Katrina) Hyatt Regency, which is not too far from the Mercedes Benz Superdome my photographs are displayed on either side of the lower ballroom entrance. To get there you will need to go to the third floor of the hotel, walk towards the back, passing the first restaurant to the right and the second to the left ,then take the stairs down to the lower ballroom, the prints are on either side of the entrance to the ballroom. Please have a look and feel free to comment in here anytime to let me know what you think. Your feedback will be very welcome.

Below is another shot taken at the Hyatt Regency , if you’ll click on each (above and below this text), you will be taken on my New Orleans Fine Art Photography fullfillment site ( nolaPIC.com ) where you will be able to order these same pictures or choose among many others I have taken in the past years in New Orleans and in the French Quarter.

The five photos purchased from the Hyatt  Regency Hotel are also shown below. Please scroll down and click on each image to see them larger on my site nolaPIC.com where you will be able to order high quality fine art prints of these shots, among many others.

Mardi Gras Indians Super Sunday 2011

posted in: Event Photography, Photography | 0

Mardi Gras Indians Super Sunday (March 20th 2011 uptown New Orleans)
Every year on the closest Sunday to St. Joseph day, the Mardi Gras Indians parades uptown New Orleans where visitors and locals can admire their amazing costumes, and follow the parade with them. The Super Sunday parade, was greater than ever with some of the best Mardi Gras suits ever seen, “polite cops” and even lots of kids parading as well!  Don’t miss this very unique New Orleans tradition next year! This is of course just a small sample of the great artwork by the New Orleans Indians gangs; I will hopefully upload more whenever I’ll find the time to get to it.

Never Let a Good Rainy Day Go to Waste…

Oh wow it was so worth it, yet again I got some killer shots in the French Quarter  during this last winter storm brushing up southeast Louisiana! Although it didn’t bring any of the white powdery stuff that we get to see down here so rarely, it brought once again the magic lights and moods of desolated streets and alleys… all of these photos below are available as fine art prints at www.nolaPIC.com Click any image below to get to the fine art print, where you can view them larger and/or purchase them.

Pictures of Holt Cemetery in New Orleans

I just added three new pictures of the Holt cemetery in New Orleans to the Gallery named “New Orleans Cemeteries” on my e-commerce site www.nolaPIC.com! To see  more New Orleans photography and purchase high quality prints please visit www.nolaPIC.com

The same gallery contains other images taken at Lake Lawn cemetery and Cypress Grove cemetery in New Orleans. High quality edition prints can be ordered online, framed, matted and with non-glare glass at very affordable prices. Many other different Louisiana subjects are available online as well, including Fine Art pictures of the French Quarter, City Park and Second Lines in New Orleans.

Now…About Holt Cemetery: It’s basically a potter’s field– the final resting place for some of New Orleans poor and indigent peoples for over a century. Because it’s a cemetery for the poor, people are buried in the ground rather than housed in the mausoleums you see throughout the city’s scenic cemeteries. More prosperous dead people rot in fancy tombs, but most of the graves here are personally decorated with bed frames, brightly-painted piles of earthly possessions, wooden headstones, and planter boxes, among other touching displays.

Photos at City Park in New Orleans

Click ImageI took two great (!) pictures last week at City Park in New Orleans. I love the spanish moss which is always great to shoot backlit!

Did you know that the Spanish moss that hangs on trees of tropical America and the Southern states, (also called Florida, southern, or long moss), it’s not a true moss but a member of the pineapple family, and it’s used for stuffing furniture and as a packing material?

These 2  photographs (square format) have been added in the gallery named “In and Around New Orleans” at my e-commerce site www.nolaPIC.com.
