Fine art photography by Pompo Bresciani at the New Orleans' Hyatt Regency Hotel

Five large prints of mine were commissioned by the New Orleans Hyatt Regency Hotel for display in the exibit hall by the lower ballroom, towards the back of the hotel. If you happen to visit New Orleans and/or  stay at the newly remodeled (recently re-opened after almost 6 years after Katrina) Hyatt Regency, which is not too far from the Mercedes Benz Superdome my photographs are displayed on either side of the lower ballroom entrance. To get there you will need to go to the third floor of the hotel, walk towards the back, passing the first restaurant to the right and the second to the left ,then take the stairs down to the lower ballroom, the prints are on either side of the entrance to the ballroom. Please have a look and feel free to comment in here anytime to let me know what you think. On my way out of the New Orleans' Hyatt Regency Hotel I had to take this photo, the hotel is no doubts, very modern and awesome :)

Canal St. New Orleans (please click image to view larger and/or purchase prints)

I have been drooling for a quite awhile now for these types of images and have been wanting to take them facing downward to Canal St. in New Orleans at twilight. Canal Street is very unique, so long and wide, but it is also very hard to shoot unless your are up high, and I mean way up there. These shots here were taken from the top of the World Trade Center building at the foot of Canal Street where the view is just incredible and beyond description; you  will be surprised also how strong the northerly winds blows when it gets funneled between the rows of buildings on Canal St.!  The images are available in square or rectangular format. Ladies and Gentlemen I’m very glad to announce my latest fine art photography work shot on Canal Street in New Orleans!

Since I have been waiting quite a while (weeks!) to get this photo done I’m very pleased with the results! Not only the magic twilight and angle makes the photo quite unique, but the never seen subject itself is a newer  one  that I have never seen done here! I got a little soaked and had to be a contortionist to get to shoot this image, but as always, hard work always pays off and as matter of facts I can’t stop staring at it! This killer New Orleans skyline image features Canal Street with the bright red streetcar we all know or at least have heard of, in the foreground,  and the central business district in the background. When I first heard that on April 30th the Treme Brass was going to be playing at the Preservation Hall in the French Quarter of New Orleans, my reactions were mixed: I got very excited, because I could see in my mind’s eye the unique pictures of the Treme Brass Band Band playing in that awesome and antique venue…Yay!!! What a perfect match I thought! What other Band would “blend in” and complement with the Preservation Hall atmosphere!?!  Yet, I were mad because the following day I had already something else planned that would have required me to wake up very early in the morning, which that made me think there was no way I could have attended a concert that started at 12:00 AM and would have ended at about 2:00 AM,  or possibly even later! I even tried to find out how often did the Treme Brass Band play there, since I knew they played every week at the Candle Light.

To cut the story short, I ended up going online and purchased myself a ticket for the event, which was sold out about a week before the performance (by the way I was in line and waiting to get it about 45 minutes in advance, pretty much first in pole position, since I wanted to have the very first choice in deciding where to sit and shoot from:).

The place is “magic” and I guarantee, you won’t find anithing this raw and funky  anywhere in the world! You can’t describe the venue with words, you must and should experience it! Now…About Holt Cemetery: It’s basically a potter’s field– the final resting place for some of New Orleans poor and indigent peoples for over a century. Because it’s a cemetery for the poor, people are buried in the ground rather than housed in the mausoleums you see throughout the city’s scenic cemeteries. More prosperous dead people rot in fancy tombs, but most of the graves here are personally decorated with bed frames, brightly-painted piles of earthly possessions, wooden headstones, and planter boxes, among other touching displays.

Did you know that the Spanish moss that hangs on trees of tropical America and the Southern states, (also called Florida, southern, or long moss), it’s not a true moss but a member of the pineapple family, and it’s used for stuffing furniture and as a packing material?

Thanks to a very low humidy record during the past  weekend (unheard of  for Louisiana in August!), I shot a few (IMHO) great images with the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM, at the Hale Boggs Mississippi River Bridge in Luling , LA and in the French Quarter in New Orleans, LA. The small slideshow doesn’t do any justice, since the images should be really viewed at larger size to fully appreciate the feel them and the dreamy bokeh. Open edition prints are for sale and available from 8″x12″ to very large prints sized @ 20″x30″ and can be ordered and shipped in USA and Europe.
