Radio Control
Remote camera shooting is really fun, it takes a lot of time in finding the angle you like best, setting it up and rigging it up every time on the beach. There are quite a few different ways of making a remote setup, the main concern after the framing and the bracketing to hold the camera of course is to bring back your gear in one piece and possibly dry ! A custom camera housing is mandatory (must be light and very resistant, better if kevlar), to house your body (I use the Nikon 8008 which is super light and compact and has a decent motor drive speed), with a motor (at least 3 frames/sec.), fisheye lens, and the radio receiver.radio control mount If you use a radio receiver you shoot and the sailor won't have to worry about, but it's kind of demanding on your attention and concentration. You can also use a remote push button triggered by the sailor itself, that way he'll know the perfect timing, and you will be able to take a nap on the beach while he is working! You can mount the camera right on the mast with some kind of brackets (see pic) and shoot at any speed between 1/15 sec to 1/2000.
